ByreRhythm is a group of mature individuals based at the Byre Theatre, St. Andrews who have been practising and promoting the art of Japanese Taiko Drumming in Scotland since 2003.  The members first met when they attended a six week drumming workshop with professional percussionist Fiona Ewen.  This workshop was one of many classes offered by the Byre Theatre's arts project HAYDAYS which offers a variety of classes and workshops to the over 50s. When the initial workshop finished, everyone wanted to continue and to specialise in Taiko drumming.  Eight years on, the group trains every week with Fiona and, in addition, the members have attended several workshops at the Mugen Taiko Dojo with Mugenkyo, Scotland's full time professional Taiko ensemble.  ByreRhythm offers workshops and team building for schools, staff INSET days and for the public, young and not so young.  These sessions are tailored to the requirements and abilities of the clients in order to provide maximum enjoyment of the experience. The group also gives public performances which, to date, include Gala days, taking part in the opening of the new Perth Concert Hall, three Scottish Arts Council conferences and two concerts in the Byre Theatre, St. Andrews. In June 2008, ByreRhythm were also the opening artists at the Scottish Widows Arty-Party in Edinburgh's International Conference Centre.
